Since the workshop is such a major, pervasive event in our lives right now I thought it would be a good idea to highlight what has happened so far and where we are today.
(These pics and more can be found here: Building Album.)
We started the project in late November, sometime after Thanksgiving. The plan was for a 22′x30′ outbuilding to house our budding business. The 22′ was somewhat arbitrary since I chose it only because it was the same width as the garage. Thirty feet long was about as far as I felt we could go and still maneuver around the yard.
We figured that since it was technically a shed, in unincorporated county land, with simple construction, we would just blaze away without permit or other troublesome details.
This was the floor joists after a day or two of work.

It was really gangbusters from there, remarkable progress daily with the building taking shape by the 5th or 6th day.

And then, on December 5th, we got red tagged.
For those who always do things right the first time around and don’t know what that means, allow me to explain. A red tag is what the Permit and Inspection folks slap on your ass being in violation of code. Also known as a work-stoppage or giant suck-fest.
Work stopped for over 2 months. I’ll fill you all in soon on what it took to get us back on track.
